"2.0: Brains on the table?"

A few weeks ago, we published an article about Michel SERRES' intervention at the 40th anniversary of INRIA.

I invite you to watch this video again. Not only is it a real delight (Ah these normaliens.... !) but it seemed to me that it particularly echoed the development of the 2.0. In his speech Michel SERRES explains that the invention of writing considerably undermines the capacities of our memory. Indeed, the information transcribed in a manuscript allows us to no longer store it in our brain.the arrival of printing is a new attack on our memory since it allows the dissemination of knowledge on a very large scale.the computer, by its considerable storage capacity, as for her, carries the blow of grace.Michel SERRES ends his speech by reminding us of the martyrdom of St. Denis who, beheaded by a Roman legionary, collected his head to hold it in his hands. Frightened, the Romans fled. Michel SERRES considers this story as an illustration of what computer science is for us today. For him, we have, like Saint Denis, put our brains on our table, and the new technologies have made us lose our heads, or at least our memory. On the other hand, as any loss of capacity sees the emergence of other capacities, the loss of our memory stimulates the development of our intelligence.2.0 in all this? It is yet another step, it is the putting on the table of tens, hundreds, countless brains developing an incredible collective intelligence.Listen to the conference in mp3
